Time to switch to a simple life!

Time is limited, but so much we want to do. Our money is limited, but our shopping wish is unlimited. It is clear how much we can eat, but our tables are unlimited. Our mind is unique, but the point it has reached now is unhealthy…

We discuss sustainability issues in broad terms like climate, environment and global warming. But in fact, at the very center of the whole, is the human being itself. In the Anthropocene age, human beings quickly harmed nature, the environment, animals, and the planet. They also caused great harm to themselves.

At the point we have reached today, we are talking about the humanitarian crisis, not the climate and environmental crisis. Life on Earth is not limited to humans. However, we know it is the human who will be most affected by all these issues. That is why the sustainability agenda is extremely important for the future of the humanity.

Happiness of consumption!

Production models that exploded with the industrial revolution also changed consumption practices. With the contribution of marketing, a ‘consumer’ form has developed, focused on consuming at all costs. Modernization and urbanization led to increased demands. As a result, people pursued earning more at all costs, leading to more consumption.

On top of that, the state of happiness and well-being has also highly become consumption indexed. Social media boom visualized and showcased this. We sought these states of happiness and well-being in better cars and better homes. We found them in holidays, fantastic tables, and in the world of luxury brands.

Here is the tragedy. If we couldn’t reach them as much as we see in others; we felt frustrated, defeated and bad. That’s why we aim to buy more, eat more, travel more, and do more. We do this just like the others. In other words, we consume more of everything. But we’re done. And what we actually consume is -ourselves-…

Solution: Simplify!

Consumption is not just about buying goods. Consciously consuming time, mind, attention, energy, emotions and ultimately our health is the main issue.

Simplification is a very pragmatic and applicable concept that comes into play at this point.

In short, in our daily life practices, everything is just as it should be. Not too little, not too much! At a healthy and sustainable level; so as it should be…

Let’s unpack this a bit. Let’s start with our homes. From our living spaces. Do we really need all this stuff? Who is the owner of your house? You or your stuff? How do you feel in a house full of items you have never used or even seen?

Let’s continue. Now, open your wardrobes. How many clothes do you have that you keep to wear in case you lose a few pounds? Shoes, bags, belts, ties… How much of them do you really need? Besides, the clothes you are considering buying new; is it really necessary?

Let’s move on to a different topic. How about your screen consumption? How many hours a day do you spend fixed on your phone screen? Or the TV screen, or both at once? Multi-screen may be an era, but is it always necessary or functional? Really?

What about your mind? When you attempt to handle many tasks simultaneously, you can not complete most of them properly. The tasks suffer in quality. Do you really think you can have quality time with your kids? Is it possible while writing or texting on your phone constantly? Are you aware that your mind and attention cannot continue in this way?

Let’s go ahead. Do we really take pleasure and taste from our rich tables, from what we eat and drink? Are we aware? Or do we consume them with blind greed?

Consumption vs. simplification

The phenomenon of consumption is among the issues that we need to discuss. Simplification is another issue. These topics are crucial for a sustainable and healthy future.

Simplification in every field promises a much healthier future for the people, the environment and the planet. Individual awareness and precautions are vital for this transformation. Moreover, it also benefits our individual economy with rational and smart choices.

Believe me, even the smallest changes we make in our daily life with a little awareness have a positive effect. These small changes make us feel very good. They also have a great impact on a sustainable future.

These issues are starting to come up more and more nowadays. Because modern life practices started to affect our health, economy and our lives heavily. ‘As Simple as the World’ series sums up these issues very well. You can watch inspiring stories on Gain and on Youtube channel.

You will have a much healthier and more enjoyable life with the simple steps you will take in this regard. Thus, you will make a very important contribution to a sustainable future and the planet…

Remember, small steps and actions make a difference. Always…
