Sustainability and Humanity: The Interconnection

We are talking about a sustainable world. We are discussing the climate crisis and global warming. Pollution and greenhouse gases impact the environment. There is also degradation of biodiversity and melting of glaciers. These issues have deadly effects. We address not only the issue of nature. We also tackle issues such as humane life. Justice is crucial for a sustainable future.

Mankind has plundered nature at great speed. Nature has been keeping its balance for billions of years. This has happened in the name of ‘civilization’. On the one hand, the relationship between nature and human has deteriorated, on the other hand, human-human relations. The conditions that created the climate crisis also widened the gaps. They have enlarged the divisions between countries, societies, and therefore people all over the world.

World societies did not go through this so-called civilization process under the same conditions. Since the era of colonization, some have simply taken and consumed; others just had to give in and run out. Now, people are discussing issues like the climate crisis. These issues will make this situation even more irreversible. They are also leading to new climate-related wars around the world.

Already struggling with economic, social and societal problems, some countries face additional challenges. They have not yet come to terms with fundamental issues such as democracy, equality, and independence. Now, they see the extraordinary conditions triggered by the climate crisis. These conditions are a new field of struggle for them. Observe the floods, great fires, and storms. Their deadly and devastating effects are witnessed almost every day in any part of the world. Thus, the beginning migrations, conflicts, social movements…

Today, we are discussing the necessity of a great transformation against the climate crisis and its effects. However, in a significant part of the world, the struggle for survival exists, let alone addressing these issues. The big brothers of the world raise these issues and put forward theses on a new world order. On the other hand, they turn their backs on those who are fighting for this life. They turn a blind eye to situations that will have tragic effects for humanity. They even create these conditions with their self-seeking agenda.

The question is…whether we shall, by whatever means, succeed in reconstituting the natural world as the true terrain of politics. We need to rehabilitate the personal experience of human beings as the initial measure of things. Morality should be placed above politics, and responsibility above our desires. We must make human community meaningful. It is important to return content to human speech. Sustainable world is not limited to the relationship between nature and human. It is also closely related to the relationship of the humans.

The sustainability agenda does not only include the issue of the climate crisis. Issues such as basic human rights, humane life and justice are also vital for a sustainable future.

Therefore, while addressing issues such as the climate crisis, such vital agenda in the world should not be overlooked.

Otherwise, while we have not resolved issues like justice, equality, humane life, and democracy, we might harm third world countries by imposing environmental solutions. These solutions can push them into deeper chaos. And so, it could create a new era of conflict. This could add even more tragic stories to the golden pages of history. The history of the world, written in tragedies with grave consequences, does not need new ones…
